Berkeley Township Man Charged With Possession Of Child Pornography

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ.- Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer reported, that Following an Investigation into Internet Crimes Against Children on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Joseph Asfor, 45, of Berkeley Township, New Jersey was Taken Into Custody and Formally Charged with Possession of Child Pornography; and Obstruction of Justice.


     An investigation by The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office High Tech Crime Unit identified an Internet IP Address in Berkeley Township, New Jersey Residence from which an individual was Uploading Digital Images of Child Pornography to The Internet. Subsequently, Mr. Asfor was Identified as The Individual.


     On Wednesday, March 27, 2024, Members of Local, State, and Federal Law Enforcement Agencies Executed a Court Authorized Search Warrant on Asfor's Berkeley Township Residence.


      During the Search, Mr. Asfor agreed to speak with Detectives outside the residence. Once outside Asfor became Agitated and started to Act Erratically, fearing for Asfor's safety, Detectives placed Mr. Asfor was Taken Into Custody and transported him to The Berkeley Township Police Department. An Initial Forensic Examination of Mr. Asfor's Cell Phone led to the Discovery of Several Digital Images of Child Pornography.


     Following the discovery of The Evidence Asfor was Arrested and Formally Charged with Possession of Child Pornography; and Obstruction of Justice. Asfor was Processed on The Charges and was Remanded to The Ocean County Jail pending Future Court Proceedings in Ocean County Superior Court.


     The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has Filed a Pretrial Detention Motion to have Mr. Asfor Detained pending Trial.
